Are we sure that we made it? The IEDAB is not so sure:
Urgent update, September 10, 2008
It is our duty to inform you that as of 7:35:05am UTC on September 10, 2008, the Earth has been destroyed.
The destruction of Earth was first reported by Mr Jonathan Barber of Wisconsin, United States, who spotted that his home-made seismic Earth Detector had ceased to give readings at around 8:00am (2am local time). Several other amateur geocide spotters noticed this at the same time but Mr. Barber was the first to place a telephone call to the IEDAB’s Geocide Hotline (+44 115 09Ω 4127, ask for Other Dave) at which point IEDAB officials performed an emergency check of their own instrumentation and verified Mr. Barber’s report, as well as fixing the exact time of geocide.
Evidence is still being collated, but preliminary results suggest that the Earth was destroyed pre-emptively by scientists at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, before the commencement of their experiments to locate the Higgs Boson, as a precautionary measure to ensure that the experiment itself could not result in the destruction of the Earth.
(Thanks, Jo!)

More insanity talk from the worshipers of the invisible cloud being, spreading more disinformation, fear, and ignorance.
I would agree that maybe mankind is not ready to understand the universe, the fundamentals of existance itself, to go beyond the third rock and extend our existance beyond what we currently understand.
Outside of that, we should look to the Borg as a role model, the quest for perfection, to include the synthetic, the possiblity of one mind, one purpose. Otherwise, we are dinosaurs, already dead, just haven’t figured it out yet.
I can confirm from Norway that the earth has been destroyed. (Apart form my computer and internet)
Do have a look at http://is.gd/19zG on the same site, too – as well as being amusing, it’s quite informative in its own way.
I can’t understand why scientists are so dumb. They don’t need to do all these experiments to find the “God Particle”. All they have to do is read the Bible. It tells all right there in the most accurate history book ever written(proven by scientists themselves). Scientist who believe in The Big Bang theory have done research to prove their theorys and ended up proving themselves wrong. They won’t admit their wrong so they conduct more experiments to try to prove their theory. They will keep doing this until they eventually destroy the world as we know it.
If man can just put more faith to science.
I am deeply sadden by this insane report.
I can sleep soundly knowing that the good Earthlings at IADEB will inform me in the event of the Earth’s destruction. All I have to do now is make my Geocide refuge, resist the temptation to collect souvenirs of the Earth and I’m set. Hopefully some nice alien will give me a lift to the next planet which supports carbon-based lifeforms.
I’m puzzled by several of the replies above – did some of think the IEDAB was real and it was an actual news item? It’s a piece of satire based on the impossibility of there being such a thing as the IEDAB…! (Though obviously if it were for real it certainly would be saddening.)
Creig, I think you’ve misunderstood the basic way science works. 1. even a universally accepted, established explanation is still called a theory. 2. The whole point with any theory is to try very hard to find out what might be wrong with it, so as to progress to a more accurate one. There are lots of tentative theories as to why the Big Bang unfolded the way it did; this experiment should show which are the plausible ones …
Yesyes, confirming form Brazil, no more earth for us.
ok first of all to anybody who thinks we’ll end the world by shooting tiny particles at each other is mad. the miniature black hole theory is true, but the black holes will only be around not even long enough to envelop 1/3 of a proton. so please, before you start virtually terrorizing people on the internet by spreading doomsday theory, bear in mind, your completely wrong.
ha… reading these answers are somewhat amusing now in 2011, and especially the last one… no, you are right. tiny particles being shot at each other could never be the cause of the world ending… and again, you are right that the black hole would just disappear into nothing. WRONG. remember that little thing called the big bang? back when the entire universe all came from particles even smaller then what we have even measured to date? the same tiny particles that now are infinite in size, and include such things as black holes that are infinite in size? again, that all came from tiny particles?
you are forgetting to factor in time, and that the smaller you go the longer time gets, and the bigger you go the slower it gets(or seems, since it is all playing out at the same time, ie: dimensions) – example being a record player. if your on the very inside spinning around you are travelling less distance to complete a full orbit then if your on the outside of the record spinning around where you have more distance to cover to make a full orbit, BUT regardless of your position you are completing your orbit at the exact same time. so what is going on between the differences in ‘distance’?? the ‘time’? of you never thought of that…
that is called dimension. so no, the earth would not end over tiny particles at all that caused a black hole down within it’s mantle…. never… not immediately, from our perspective anyways… it would take ‘time’ for us to see it. on the scale level of those particles the earth has already been destroyed and NOW our scale needs to ‘catch up’.
look around at the earth today in 2011… the sun, the solar system, etc…. everything’s going crazy because it’s already been destroyed. humans ripped time, and thus destabilized the entire universe. we are now destructing.
something to ponder though… if the rest of the universe however can figure it out before it’s too late, perhaps it can stop it’s own destruction by destroying earth itself first… like a solar maxim and the sun frying us? because that way the sun would have destroyed the planet before the black hole that was created on it escaped it’s ‘time’ scale into the rest of the solar system. but it would have to know about this first… consciousness… i say it knows, hence the comet coming, the moon destabilizing the earths axis by moving farther away, the suns mass ejections, it’s all trying to take out earth before earth takes out them.
it’s happening right now, look around. peace.
