Geneva is certainly an expensive city to live. But compared to the wages, it is not that expensive proportionnally. As for the rest of Switzerland. Others big cities in Europe have become as expensive as Geneva or Zurich, but the salaries are much lower. In BArcelona or Madrid, you will pay 7 Euros for a movie ticket, in Switzerland twice this price. But in Switzerland, nobody earns 1’000 Euro as more than 50% of the Spanish population!

I used to live in Ferney-Voltaire. Bear in mind that there’s a big Migros in the shopping centre at St Genis in France, with lower French prices for many items. Migros restaurants are also good places to eat for a reasonable price, I used to eat at the one in Balexert quite often.
