Thanks so much for this post! I'm an undergraduate at Imperial College London and I hope to go into particle physics (neutrino astrophysics specifically), so any opportunities to do research in that area are very welcome. I'm trying to gather as many as I can for when I come off medical leave and can fully go back to Imperial :-)

Take a closer at the summer programs offered by FermiLab linked above. There are indeed several graduate student opportunities.

Most of the internship programs seem to be available only for undergraduate (Bachelor degree) students. I could not find (via Google, of course) any summer internship programs for those who are currently pursuing their masters degree.

Some of them are only available to US Citizens and permanent residents . However, you do not need to be a US Citizen/permanent resident for all of them. The application details available through the various links above will provide you with the eligibility requirements for each opportunity. Good luck!

Hi Brian,

Although I studied physics at the University, I wasn't able to get neither a Ph.D. opportunity nor being involved in scientific life. It is something that I will be regretting all my life because physics and especially high energy physics is something that I love. Moreover, here in Spain all this information was not available (not only US programs, but other countries as well) and now it is too late for me to apply to them. Had I known all this things before and now I would be on a more interesting position. However, as well as you, I encourage all the students throughout the world with an interest in science to apply to these REU programs or similar, as they'll have time for 'earning' money in industry in the future but opposite to me, they will also have the experience of having got in touch with real science, and who knows, they could even discover the most basic building blocks of nature in the future ;o))

Thanks a lot for these interesting posts!!
